Wow, I just realized how long it has been since the last update of Windows Genuine Advantage. The last time I posted about the latest WGA crack news was on October 2007. I checked Wikipedia, the latest version of WGA is version 1.7.0018.7 released on December 14, 2007. I wondered how did I miss that since I follow every single version of WGA? Perhaps more people are on Vista now plus service pack 1 is being released, lesser people are focusing on XP. Anyway, I am still using Windows XP most of the time. So I went to Microsoft Update to check if there is any new or updated Windows Genuine Advantage to download but there is none in the list. As far as I know, the latest version of WGA do not roll out worldwide at the same time. I recently just got to know what WGA collects from your computer, and now I prefer to either uninstall WGA or have a cracked one in my system even though I am using a GENUINE copy of Windows XP Professional.
Wikipedia explains that Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is an anti-piracy system enacted by Microsoft that enforces Microsoft Windows online validation of the authenticity of several recent Microsoft operating systems when accessing several Microsoft Windows services, such as Windows Update, and downloading from the Microsoft Download Center. It also says that the following datas are being collected by WGA:

Computer make and model

BIOS checksum.

MAC address.

A unique number assigned to your computer by the tools (Globally Unique Identifier or GUID)

Hard drive serial number.

Region and language settings of the operating system.

Operating system version.

PC BIOS information (make, version, date).

PC manufacturer.

User locale setting.

Validation and installation results.

Windows or Office product key.

Windows XP product ID.

Don’t you think that the data being collected by WGA is a little too much? No wonder the Windows Genuine Notification tool is being accused of spyware-like behavior by “phoning home” on a daily basis which Microsoft subsequently admitted the behavior! I want you to understand that I’m NOT encouraging you to install this Windows Genuine Validation v1.7.69.1 crack. It is definitely wrong to install it if you don’t have a genuine Windows XP license. However, if you have the genuine license, it’s up to you to do what you want if you’re not afraid of having a potentially unstable system by replacing modified system files.
